Kara (Frenzel​​) Saunders

About Kara

rowing up in Moorpark, California, Kara's passion for dancing flourished at a young age. She participated in her high school dance team, danced for several dance companies, as well as Moorpark College. Kara studied various dance styles including jazz, ballet, hip hop, modern, swing, ballroom, salsa, improv. and choreography.

Kara studied Business Management with emphasis in Marketing and  minoring in Dance, at Brigham Young University- Idaho from 2004-2008. She expanded her knowledge of dance, studying all styles of Ballroom, including Smooth, Rhythm, Standard and Latin certifying through DVIDA, plus social Latin, Night Club, and Lindy. Kara performed on multiple tour groups, several of which toured in Canada as well as a few other ballroom and contemporary teams. Kara also interned at a well know ballroom dance studio franchise gaining full time teaching experience.

Today, Kara is an Allstar/ Champion dancer on the West Coast Swing circuit. She offers private lessons and group classes and runs SLO Motion WCS at a weekly venue in San Luis Obispo. She has been teaching since 2005 and can be found teaching and judging at WCS dance conventions, swing clubs and dances, and even internationally, including France and Canada. She also started and choreographed for the Jazz/Burlesque group, the Boom Boom Girls.

In 2012 she teamed up withChampion, Jake Haning, for a Classic routine. Dancing to 1967 classic “Do I Move You” by Nina Simone, they placed 5th in their Debut at Capital and have also made finals at the prestigious Swing Diego as well as a number of other placements. Her next partner was Allstar WCS/ and Lindy Champion, Matt Richey. Their first routine placed nationally and also 1st at Sea Sun Swing in France. She wrapped up her professional routine career dancing several routines with Demetre Souliotes. 

Kara is often complimented as a “beautiful dancer,” known for her sexy and playful style, emotional musicality, and love of technique, developed from partner dancing and contemporary dance.  Kara is currently engaged to be married in April 2022 and is slowing down on traveling to perform more locally and work one on one with other wedding couples to they can dance on their big day too!
